The MAITRE project means to carry on the activities achieved during the CAMEO project - Comparison and Analysis of Mentoring in EurOpe, launched in the framework of the Preparatory Measures to Combat and Prevent Social Exclusion promoted by the Directorate General Employment and Social Affairs. CAMEO, coordinated by Amitié, carried out a study that drew a picture of the role of mentor, investigating the different terminology used within the different Member States' consortium (France, Greece, Italy and Spain) and the relative functions assigned.MAITRE aims to raise the quality of mentoring programmes by improving their training schemes, techniques and materials that will allow mentors, for the first time, to progress towards an enhancement of profile. In particular the project:
carried out a study on mentors' training needs in the vocational & educational training (VET) sector and in the business sector;
defined the skills of the "European Mentor", laying the basis for a European profile of mentors;
identified and compared training materials as well as the learning schemes available for mentors employed in the VET and business sectors, checking their quality and providing recommendations for future developments of training courses (also thanks to the ESF);
identified, integrated and adapted the most comprehensive training resources and tools for mentors, in order to make an extensive promotion of the best practices identified during the lifetime of the project.
The adapted resources were tested within mentoring programmes so as to validate their effectiveness and impact in terms of quality and benefits. After the testing phase, the partnership issued the final recommendations for the implementation of quality training programmes for mentors.MAITRE identified instances of innovative and good practices that might be imported in the countries involved in the project: the material has been made available and disseminated in five languages among the organisations dealing with or interested in mentoring and policy makers.
This experience allowed to exchange experiences and best practices at transnational level among training centres, schools, universities, enterprises and SMEs, voluntary organisations, creating a link also with other projects financed by the European Commission related to the field of interest.
